Volunteers Needed
We welcome volunteers – and value our volunteer team!
Our volunteers come from all walks of life – students, retirees, professionals – and we have a variety of teams who rely on members to keep us going:
- Events Team
- Assists with planning and executing outreach and fundraising events. Members of this team brainstorm, prepare and deliver fliers and information packets, recruit other volunteers, and attend events as pantry representatives.
- Administrative Team
- Assists with pantry communications, business appointments, reporting, and digital or traditional campaigns. They often assist with content creation, donor database and CRM, and lots of paperwork!
- Delivery Team
- Assists in teams of 2 with delivering food to our home-bound guests – or those guest unable to make the trip to our Newport location. The team uses our pantry truck.
- Buildings & Grounds Team
- Assists with maintaining the building and grounds, completing repair and improvement projects.
- Pantry Team
- Assists with pantry inventory, including acceptance and quality control. This team is responsible for preparing food boxes for our guests – and must be able to lift 75 pounds, navigate stairs, and complete a food handling certification course. We especially need pantry volunteers around the Easter and Christmas holidays – when we prepare holiday food boxes for our guests.
Some volunteers are on-call and we contact them to participate in particular events or programs. Other volunteers serve on a set schedule.
Due to the sensitive nature of the services we provide, all public-facing volunteers complete a supportive training program – helping them know what to say and how to say it!
